Production meeting

Same BAT Time, Different BAT Place!
Production meeting this week is Tuesday June 6th at 5pm.
We will meet in the lounge next to the CLUBS Space in the Student Center (about room 215) {there are no rooms for us because of a conference-the MUSC ninja can't even fix that}

I was not at the production meeting that discussed the ticket price for the plays in this year's festival, but heard that general admission per show is 10 dollars and 8 dollars for students, or a pass for 25 dollars. This seems pretty expensive to me. Also, I may be wrong here, but I would think the festival's main audience would be students; students tend not to be able to afford to pay much for tickets, or want to pay much for tickets. If a student can only make it to two shows, or only wants to see two shows, that means it costs them 18 dollars, that's a lot...and yet it's not worth it for them to pay 25 dollars for a pass. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I feel 8 - 10 dollars may deter people from coming to see the shows. Price should not be an indicator of how ‘good’ a play or performance should be. Money should not determine how valuable a piece of theatre is. What are the goals of the Festival this year? Is it to make a profit? Cover costs of the performances? Showcase McMaster talent, provide the community with a number of entertaining plays? The price of tickets definitely sends a message, and since I haven’t attended any production meetings I don’t really know what message the festival wants to send, or what the main goals of the festival are this year. So, in all my ignorance, I still want to make my opinion known, and say that I feel these ticket prices are a little steep, and may prevent people from attending the performances, especially attending on a whim…

I heard through some people who attended the meeting about the ticket prices as well and I completely agree with the previous email. Its a festival not a mainstream production, our play does not have tech and it is outside. Not that it isn't worth the money, but it may avoid people coming to the outdoor plays...Why pay that much for an outdoor play when you can stay inside and avoid harsh mother nature? I spoke with some friends and family and they thought it was a little ridiculous... It would cost my family 60 dollars to come see one play! In comparision, they could have gone to see a movie at Silvercity Ancaster for the same price. Just my two cents...

Unfortunately I have not been able to attend the meetings because of work. However, have the ticket prices been decided yet? And is their a website or flyers I would be able to give/hand out to people? I have had a few people ask me about it at work who were interested in coming out to see the plays.

Thanks,
Tina, MLD.
